Combined Competences

The collaboration between competent technology and business partners is more important than ever – to stay competitive in the world market. Regional innovation centers offer an ideal framework for networking and cooperation. The ITV participates in numerous networks by contributing expertise and its infrastructure. It directs both the technical and medical textile centers of competence.

The ITV is a Partner of the Following Competence Centers:

Kompetenznetz Biomaterialien (biomaterials network) Baden-Württemberg
This biomaterials competence center was formed in 2003. Biomaterials research up until then primarily involved the development and testing of biomaterials and their surfaces. The Kompetenznetz’ main focus is tissue engineering, in particular the application of connective and supporting tissue in orthopedics and traumatology.

BMOZ – German Biomaterials and Organ Replacement Center
Since 1996 experiences in development and synthesis of polymer biomaterials and surface modification are joined with development as well as in the development of impants up to biohybrid organ replacement in this center. The BMOZ has taken up the challenge to develop and test implants and organ replacement structures for clinical application in close cooperation within the framework of a biomaterial research project. In addition to this basic research, pharmaceutical and medical technology companies join together to concentrate on application-related development.

BIOKON Kompetenz-Netz (Expertise Network)
Sponsored by the BMBF (German Ministry for Research and Technology) since 2001, the Bionik-Kompetenz-Netz (BIOKON) is a project whose aim it is to identify and tap bionic technology and engineering to its full potential.
Consequently, this Germany-wide network encompasses the most important work groups in the bionics area forming an ideal platform for professional exchange and the compilation of curricula and concepts for schools and universities. It also relays queries from the industry to the appropriate contact partner.

Kompetenznetz Biomimetik (Competence Network Biomimetrics)
The University of Freiburg Kompetenznetz Biomimetik (“plants as inspiration for the development of biomimetric materials and technologies“) provides an interface between university research and industrial application. It was founded in cooperation with the University of Tübingen and the ITV Denkendorf in November 2002 and is funded through the Baden-Württemberg Ministry for Research and Technology.
