From fiber and yarn to the textile fabric - this task is dealt with in the business unit fabric and structure technologies. Traditional processes of fabric production such as weaving, knitting and warp-knitting, but als special technologies such as nonwovens technology, braiding or fiber composite technology are the basis for innovative developments of textile products with functional surplus value. This result in new fabrics such as atmofil® or new high-performance technologies for the optimization of conventional processes of fabric production. This business field develops fabrics for interdisciplinary tasks as, e.g., at the product development of technical textiles - fabrics which can be processed in downstream research areas. Most modern pilot plants and production facilities offer excellent conditions for the work - from basic research up to small-scale production.

The business unit covers the following research topics:

  • weaving preparation / sizing
  • weaving technologies: weaving preparation, projectile, rapier, air-jet, jacquard technology
  • knitting technologies
knitting / warp-knitting technologies, high-dynamic knitting processes, knitted fabrics for technical applications
  • nonwovens technologies
staple fiber nonwovens, spunbond nonwovens, meltblow technology, nano-nonwovens
  • braiding
  • lapping
