Textile materials and processes provide a great opportunity for innovations and can be stimulus for ground-breaking developments. Alongside conventional applications such as clothing and home textiles, its relevance has been gaining momentum. This also involves textiles, often in a combination of materials, which have been optimized for specific functionality, flexibility and usability. In a way textile materials constitute an essential part of countless innovative products to be offered in the high-tech sectors of the future. The working group “Innovative and Intelligent Products” focuses on tech-oriented innovations in the area of energy, the environment, Life Science, materials and raw materials technology. This presupposes a coordinated and interdisciplinary development along the complete textile production chain, from polymer to fiber, and from finishing to functionalization processing.

This division involves the following research areas:

  • Technical textiles
Filtration technology, geo-textiles, barrier textiles, building textiles and membranes, environmental simulation technology
  • Automobile textiles
Filters, tarpaulins, airbags, safety belts, compounds for structural components, interiors, cord-reinforced tires, drive belts, hoses
  • Lightweight Design
Structural components, sound insulation, thermal and refrigeration insulation
  • Fiber composite materials
Pultrusion, braiding pultrusion, RTM process, vacuum bag procedure
  • Textiles for environmental technology
    Membranes/Filters, textile carrier materials, coaleszers
  • Medical textiles
Surgical garments, surgical textiles, hospital textiles, compression textiles
  • Biomedical Technology
Biomaterials, medical products, implant developments and testing, manufacture and processing of special medical polymers to make implant materials
  • Smart Textiles
Integrated actuator or sensor technology, isolated energy supply, Wearable Computing
