Making-up Technologies

Textile separation and bonding

Work in the research group dealing among others with modern production technology focuses on the following three areas: the finishing of technical textiles including garments with specified technical properties, the research and development of sewing sensors, and the optimization and application of alternative joining technologies.

Current developments in sensor technology include a low-cost sensor for production machines and a dynamic needle temperature gauge, which enables the needle temperature along the sewing needle to be measured while in operation. This measuring system is suitable for the assessment of the thermal stress of a sewing process as well as to optimize sewing needles and finishing agents. These ‘sensor systems’ are produced and marketed by the ITV Denkendorf.

The development of innovative textiles is closely linked with new bonding technologies. This includes a variety of production technology welding processes, such as ultrasonic and laser welding, and high-frequency welding. These processes have been and are being applied respectively in past and current projects. The welding machines are available for all types of experiments.

We offer:

  • consultation for industry
  • industrial production analyses
  • damage event analyses
  • tests on conventional sewing machines and welding machines (ultrasonic, high-frequency, laser welding machines)
  • measuring system evaluations and optimization of sewing processes
  • dynamic measuring of needle temperature while in operation
  • development of sewing sensor technology (needle stitch force of penetration, horizontal and vertical presser foot force, sewing thread tactile force, missed stitch monitoring)
  • development of low-cost sensors for production machines
  • development of production prototypes.
