This area of research serves to create added-value to textile structures, semi-finished and end products in the most varied of process phases along the textile production chain. The R&D focus is on streamlining production methods, optimizing flexibility and monitoring machinery. It also concerns process diagnosis and integrating automation with information technology alongside adapted and phased automation. The cost and efficiency aspects involving sensor technology, metrology, drive, control and regulation technology plus material flow and handling are highly relevant in this area. The textile industry in Germany today is among those sectors with the highest degree of automation. The cost of technology investment that has to be made for each and every workplace in order to remain competitive on the international stage is extraordinarily high.

Guaranteeing high quality in textile production is a central theme for the Quality Management group. For production facilities to be up to standard it is absolutely vital that environmental as well as sound and vibration requirements are met. Developments in textile structures and products for environmental technology have also opened up new markets, for instance in filtration and sound proofing and vibration absorption.

This division involves the following research areas:

  • Technical Process Management
  • process and production automation
  • environmental technologies
  • Quality Management
  • sound proofing and vibration damping technology
