Added value through coatings
Creating high functionality by modifying the surfaces of textiles is the major task of this research group. This involves the development of processes and products and the manufacture of prototypes and pilot lots. Self-cleaning surfaces, for instance, for textiles have been created and certified by the Denkendorf ‘self-cleaning by nature’ seal. The focus of the other projects is on the functionalization of textiles in the area of sports and recreation, safety, barrier, medicine, and hygiene, and membranes for building and planning. The implementation of multifunctional coating lines enables the development of new coating processes up to production-readiness. Plasma technology for the pretreatment of textiles before film deposition or immediately before the dyeing, coating, or bonding process was developed at the ITV and is available to industry.
We offer:
the development of coating systems and processes supported by
- a coating line that can handle products up to 1 meter width (various coating modules, thermal oil heater, stenter frame dryer, transport by way of pin chain, clip chain or conveyer belt, force sensing in the heating zone)
- a coating line working width of 0.5 meter (foulard machine, modular infrared dryer, on-line production data capture)
- plasma technology (dielectric barrier discharge under atmospheric pressure, fundamental analysis of practice-orientated technical college systems, continuous plasma coating up to 1 meter width web material, oil and water resistant coating on fiber with special reactive gases)
