Weaving preparation / Sizing

Economy and ecology in fabric production

The sizing process following the fabric production process considering the aspects of economy and ecology is at the heart of this research area. Research aims are the reduction and optimization of sizing agents, as well as the improvement of processing and their engineering solutions. New application methods, new sizing agents and improved machine settings are under development. Sizing agents that cannot be washed out of the fabric are also being developed. The functionalization of filament and staple fiber yarns through coating is another important topic. Sizing machines for staple fibers and single thread high-performance filaments are available for research activities in the pilot plant. Single thread sizing systems enable the development and adaptation of recipes for different yarn qualities.

We offer:

  • development of functional coatings and sampling
  • lab analyses of coating systems, sizing agents, warp yarns, fabrics: viscosity, adhesive force, molar mass distribution (GPC-analysis), water solubility, recyclability, weaving behavior, sizing degree, residual sizing agent content
  • analyses of functional coatings: water and oil repellence, resistance tests, cleaning behavior
  • operational analyses in weaving preparation (warping, sizing) for optimization (processes, machines, settings, recipes)
  • sizing agent recycling.
